QUINCY -
A Quincy woman died Wednesday after being hit by a car while crossing a busy section of Washington Street.
Laura Duggan, 46, of Quincy, was pronounced dead at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday at Boston Medical Center. Duggan, who had been crossing Washington Street near her home, was struck by a car driven by Andrea Collura, 25, of Quincy at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Albert Ash, who maintains the property for the landlord at Duggan's apartment building, said Duggan was probably on her way to Thao's Dairy Farm at 330 Washington St. when she was hit.
Ash said Duggan had been living on the first floor of a multi-unit house at 345 Washington St. with boyfriend Paul Brundige for nearly two years. The two have known each other since high school, Ash said.
"She always had a compliment for me," said Dale Solander, who lives one house down from Duggan at 337 Washington St.
Solander said he didn't see Duggan outside too often. Sometimes she would talk to Solander when he was fixing his porch.
Both Solander and Ash said that Duggan walked with a limp.
"She didn't move too quickly when she walked," Ash said.
Washington Street is heavily traveled for much of the day. Ash believes that because Washington Street is much wider than most streets in Quincy, drivers tend to drop their guard and be less wary of pedestrians.
This month, Quincy police have increased their presence at busy intersections to make them safer for pedestrians and drivers. Police are focusing on Hancock Street near the McDonald's restaurant and the North Quincy MBTA station, which is near North Quincy High School.
Police are still investigating the incident, but currently no charges have been filed against Collura, said officer James Flaherty.
