Reports just in say a man was shot after pulling a gun on Peabody police this afternoon. Details are sketchy but the reports say the man had been released after appearing in court earlier today for a restraining order violation. The man reportedly was shot in the stomach and his condition is unknown.

PEABODY — Police responding to a 911 call Monday afternoon shot a man in the abdomen after he allegedly pulled a handgun.
Phillip Noto, 55, was taken to Salem Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet.
The 911 call about a restraining order violation sent police to 60 Washington St., where Noto lives. The building has at least two apartments and a business. As they attempted to arrest him, Noto pulled a gun, according to a press release from the district attorney's office.
"As a result, an officer fired hitting him in the abdomen," according to the written statement from Karen Dawley, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
Noto had been arraigned early Monday morning at Peabody District Court on a charge of threatening to commit a crime. A restraining order against him was extended, and he was released shortly after on $750 cash bail.
State police, at the request of Peabody police Chief Robert Champagne, are investigating the incident.
As of this posting, neither Noto's condition nor the name of the officer who shot him was available.

$750 Bail and a short extended RO huh? Another job well done by our court system. I'm sure the threatened woman feels perfectly safe now.

This AH was released earlier the SAME day and pulled a gun on a cop right? ($750!?!?!?!?!) What makes the judge think it won't happen again? I can hear it now from the judge.....(picture the judge with his/her index finger extended and shaking toward this mutt) "Now I think you've learned your lesson. You go home and think about what you did and don't do it again. Mr. Clerk, call the next case."

PEABODY — The man whom police shot Monday has died at Salem Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed shortly after noon.
Phillip Noto Sr., 55, had been in critical condition since he was transported from his 60 Washington St. home to the hospital. He died sometime after 6 p.m. Thursday.
Police had responded to a domestic violence call at Noto's home Monday. Inside, Noto pulled out what has since been described as a starter pistol. Patrolman Richard Cochran shot him in the stomach, ending the confrontation, according to police.
