BOSTON - A federal magistrate judge has refused to grant bail to a Rhode Island man accused of trying to bring guns on a flight from Boston's Logan Airport to Lebanon.
Magistrate Marianne Bowler on Tuesday ordered 26-year-old Munir Alani held pending trial on felony charges of delivery of a firearm to an airline and lying to federal agents.
A trial has not been scheduled.
Alani, a Syrian national with addresses in North Providence and Cranston, has been held since his arrest Sept. 19.
Prosecutors say he had 11 disassembled guns his luggage.
He claims the incident is a misunderstanding and that he had been led to believe that firearms in checked-in baggage were permissible. He says he has no terrorist ties and planned to sell the guns in Syria.
