A crash involving two trucks on Interstate 70 in Washington County has killed two people, and one of the victims is a South Strabane Township police officer.
The accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Bentleyville exit.
According to a news release from PennDOT, I-70 westbound is closed before exit 32. Traffic is being detoured via Route 43. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
It appears that the police officer -- who has not been identified yet -- got out of his vehicle to remove some debris from the road and was struck by an oncoming UPS truck, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said.
Police said the UPS truck then apparently hit another truck, which flipped over. Investigators on the scene said the driver of the second truck was also killed.
Neither of the victims' names has been released yet.
