Outlaws club makes itself known
Tuesday, 07/13/04

Massachusettes - The Taunton Outlaws, which came to the city January of 2002 and rents a house at 218 School St., officially announced their presence to the Village last month by hanging a large red, white and black sign atop the club's home.

The Outlaws also have clubs in Brockton, Stoughton, Boston, East Boston and the North Shore, according to its Web site.

Police Chief Raymond O'Berg said his department is meeting with departments in these communities in an effort to monitor The Outlaws' activity.

O'Berg would not say if there will be an increased police presence on School Street to keep an eye on the Outlaws.

"I will not comment on ongoing police activity that we are undertaking," O'Berg said.

The chief said Sgt. Matthew McCaffrey, who specializes in gang issues, "is coordinating efforts in that direction."

"If they abide by the law then they have nothing to worry about," said O'Berg. "But if they do start breaking the law or start causing disturbances in the neighborhood, we'll be ready to take action."
