ATTLEBORO - A North Kingston, R.I., woman was charged with drunk driving after her vehicle struck another head-on on the Olive Street bridge Sunday night.

Lisa Tanner was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, her second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and having an open container of alcohol in her vehicle at the time of the accident.

Police were on the lookout for Tanner's vehicle shortly before the crash when another motorist flagged down motorcycle officer John Hynes to alert him that a vehicle, described as a Jeep SUV, had nearly struck his and was driving erratically.

Hynes was searching for the vehicle when police received calls reporting the head-on crash on the narrow bridge.

When police arrived at the scene, they determined that the Jeep involved in the bridge accident was the vehicle they were looking for. During the investigation into the crash, Tanner became unruly and lashed out at press photographers, before and after she was taken into custody.

The driver of the other car, a red Ford Escort with Massachusetts license plates, was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

His vehicle sustained extensive damage.

The name and medical condition of the driver of that vehicle was not available, pending the completion of police reports.

The bridge was closed for almost an hour as police conducted an investigation. Firefighters spread chemicals to absorb fluids that leaked from the vehicles.
