Greetings all,

Here's the question.
-------------
How does your department handle calls for turned in found property?
Do your department:
A- Have the person bring the item in to your department, every time.
B- Send an officer to pick up the item, every time.
C- Depending on the item, either have the person bring it in, or, send an officer.
-------------

Thanks for your answers and input.

Honestly I don't recall getting any phone calls regarding found property...people usually just bring it to the station. But if they were to call that is what I would tell them, bring it in. Obviously just like anything, depending on what the item was I am sure an Officer may be dispatched to the scene.

All lost n'found items are turned in to student life.
The Police only accept items of high value like cash or nuclear weapons.
They are logged and owners must identify and sign for items.

Oh, we don't pick up anything.

Thanks all for the replies.

Sounds like many of you are already doing, what we are getting around to doing.
1- High-ticket and/or an officer available = we pick-up the item
2- Low-ticket = the finder brings over the item.

Back in the day, when our department had a full complement of officers the college had the luxury of sending a campus police officer to pick up each and every found item.

Now almost as often as not, we have less officers on per shift, then the department that is making the call for us to pick-up a sweatshirt that someone left behind has available!

God forbid, one of them would have to bring something over on one of their trips out of their office! Like all good deeds, doing other campus offices/departments/divisions a favor...it now becomes an expected service/duty...
