1966 was when the Miranda warning came out. Some states the police officers carry cards and have to read off of them.

I always like it when a prisoner informs me they're beating the charges because I didn't read them their rights, when I asked them nothing to begin with, and in fact requested several times they shut their mouths.

Yup. We carry the cards but we read them at our own discretion. I got a chuckle out of the wording, "I advise" etc.

With drunks, I used to say: You have the right to remain silent. I advise you to exercise that right! Any questions?

They were then booked and processed. I don't like drunks, plain and simple.
