Do summer reserves in ME go through the full academy or some sort of limited part time version? I know MA eliminated the part time academy and I heard NH is looking at doing away with it as well. Seems like it would be hard to have to send a class through full time every year for summer jobs.

Seems about right. The Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s website says it is 200 hours split into 3 phases.
Phase I 40-Hour Online Training Topics
Phase II Interactive, Scenario Based Classroom Training 80 Hours
Phase III Supervision by Hiring Agency 80 Hours
That seems insane to me. Are they fully empowered after a week of online class, two weeks of scenario training and two weeks of field training? That seems like beyond setting someone up for failure.

I understand an abbreviated academy to get people on the street for small departments that need seasonal help, but most other states seem to go longer than that at least. Last I checked the NH part time academy was 600+ hours, and they’re looking to do away with it because they don’t feel it’s enough training.
