ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Authorities in Ohio are accusing a man of planting fake pipe bombs at two post offices to divert attention while he robbed a bank.
The bomb scares on July 29 prompted evacuations in the tiny southern Ohio towns of Guysville and Stewart. A bank in nearby Coolville was robbed of $20,000 the same day.
A grand jury on Monday indicted 44-year-old Patrick Slider on multiple charges including aggravated robbery and two counts of inducing panic. He faces up to 59 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
Athens County Sheriff Vernon Castle said Slider was arrested in Michigan on Sept. 8 on outstanding Ohio warrants and made statements about the bank robbery.
Slider's lawyer in a separate drug case said Tuesday he had no comment.
