Westlake police arrested a North Olmsted man they say was under the influence of alcohol when he drove a shooting victim to a hospital.
Police said that on Friday, an officer tried to stop a pickup truck on Center Ridge Road near Bradley Road.
Police said the driver, 40-year-old Thomas Tindira, was speeding and peeling his tires while driving to the St. John Westshore Hospital emergency room.
Police said Richard Alvarez, 38, was in the bed of the truck and had a gunshot wound to the head. Police also recovered a revolver in the cab of the truck.
Tindira was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless operation and carrying a concealed weapon.
He was released on $28,000 bond and had to surrender all firearms from his residence. His license has been suspended and he will appear in court again on Oct. 16.
Alvarez was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. There is no word on his condition.
The shooting remains under investigation.
