After almost forty years, Officer James A. Callahan, Sr. of the Middlesex Sheriff's Office, is s getting the recognition that he deserves by having his name added to the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial in Washington, D.C.

At approximately 0600 hours on Friday August 24, 1973, Jail Detainee Michael Miele was being escorted to an Isolation Unit by several correction officers when he suddenly assaulted Officer James A. Callahan, Sr. punching him in the chest and abdomen. Shortly after this assault, Officer Callahan was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Lowell, where he was later pronounced dead.

Rest in peace Officer Callahan!

Why so long to put a guy on the wall who's death was on duty and clearly linked to an assault?
