NEW YORK (AP) -- Police say an off-duty officer was wounded and had his weapon stolen during a robbery on Staten Island.
The officer, who was shot in the leg and hip, is in stable condition. Police have one person in custody and are looking for two others.
The officer was in a car with his brother and a friend around 2:30 a.m. Thursday when the assailants ordered them to get out.
One of the suspects patted the officer, found his off-duty gun and quickly shot him with another gun. Then he fled with the officer's weapon.
The officer works in Brooklyn. He was parked near his grandmother's home at the time of the attack.
