Greensboro, NC -- The victim was wanted in New York for homicide and stealing a car. The Greensboro Police Department announced at 11:30 PM Sunday night one person is dead after a shooting off at the Colonial Manor Condominiums off of West Meadowview Road.
Greensboro Police said officers from the Tactical Street Enforcement Team encountered a man wanted for homicide in New York in Greensboro. NYPD called Greensboro police advising the person of interest was in the Greensboro area after he stole a car after the homicide in New York.
Greensboro Police told WFMY News 2, a short time after their arrival at the suspected residence, two TSET officers and a uniformed canine officer approached the man wanted by NYPD.
Police said the officers on foot saw a handgun in the suspect's hand and issued verbal commands for the man to drop the weapon.
Police said the wanted man then fired his gun at the three officers and the police car. One of the shots went through the windshield of the vehicle.
Neighbors tell WFMY News 2 they heard at least eight to 10 shots fired.
Greensboro Police told WFMY News 2 officers then returned fire striking the wanted man. The man, whose name is not being released by police at this time, was transported to Cone hospital where he died.
Greensboro Police said the investigation is being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation.
