can anyone tell me about northern worcester county pd's? I am going to the reserve academy soon and am interested in trying to get on one part time. I am new to the area and have a good job working security in worceste(make over 50,000). I am interested in the orange-athol area.

Athol and Orange are Civil Service so you would need to have taken the test and most likely be a resident. There are some PT departments in the area but from what I know they prefer to hire residents of the town. Some selectboards are nervous about hiring out of town candidates. Sounds like you make enough money to not need too much extra. You could always apply to Worcester's Auxiliary force from what I know it is unpaid but you run around with a gun and can make arrests. Good luck either way.

FYI, if you apply for the Worcester Aux. it usually takes while before you can get on. They usually run into problems with training their guys. Sometimes the waiting period can take anywhere from 4 months to a year, depending on the amount of applicants. Many of the WPD full timers don't like them, but it is good experience and a good resume builder. They are always looking to hire guys. Hope that helps. Its tough to get on around here. Good luck.

ladderman I assume you are looking for a p/t job more to get into L.E work and to have a little fun. Try looking at the smaller towns in your area, Belchertown, not sure where you are but Erving all those small communities have p/t cops that dont restrict you at all. I worked out there for 4 yrs p/t for one town and f/t for another its definatly worth a shot. If you find some towns you are interested in let me know I know a lot of cops in those small town and can most likely give the scoop on the dept, dependig on which one you are interseted in.

Last I heard around the water cooler was they were being disbanded. And no, we don't like them...

I have some friends that are worcester p.d. and they already filled me in on the auxiliary. It doesnt sound like its my cup of tea. I am more interested in the municipal depts around my home. I have a very good paying job right now and am only looking for something part time(for now). :? I have quite a few friends that are p.d. and they seem to like it. I was a firefighter for quite a while and got tired of it so I would like to try going over to the "dark side" :D.
