PITTSFIELD - A North Adams man accused of killing his estranged wife has pleaded not guilty to murder and assault charges.
Eugene Shade II was ordered held without bail at his arraignment on Thursday in Berkshire Superior Court.
Authorities say Julie Shade died on July 30 from injuries caused by Eugene Shade, just over a week after he allegedly choked her. According to police reports, Eugene Shade said he "snapped" while he and his wife talked about their separation.
He called 911 and turned himself in to police.
Prior to his wife's death, Eugene Shade had been held on $250,000 bail on various charges including attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty.
After Julie Shade died, charges were upgraded.
The couple has two daughters ages 1 and 3.
