CONCORD, N.H. -- A convicted murderer is back behind bars after walking away from a halfway house in Concord, N.H.
The Corrections Department says 58-year-old Carl Laurie, of Enfield, surrendered to Concord police shortly after midnight. He left his halfway house Wednesday morning to look for a job and did not return.
Laurie was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Lucien Fogg in Franklin in 1989. The state Supreme Court threw out the conviction in 1995, saying the state improperly denied Laurie access to personnel records of the Franklin police officer who investigated the case. The records cast doubt on the officer's credibility.
Afterward, Laurie pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is eligible for parole next April.
