LITTLETON, N.H. -- A Littleton man will be charged with second-degree murder in connection with his girlfriend's death in Vermont, police said.Christopher Chase, 28, was arrested Monday outside a department store in western New York and charged with being a fugitive from justice. Vermont State Police said they found the body of Chase's girlfriend, Sara Bragdon, 22, in her Guildhall, Vt., home Sunday night.Littleton police contacted Vermont police on Sunday after a relative of Chase told them he made comments indicating he may have killed Bragdon. Because Bragdon has a child, Vermont police forcefully entered her house when they saw no signs of activity. Police said Bragdon suffered a gunshot said.
Relatives said Bragdon didn't pick her daughter up at the child's father's home over the weekend and didn't show up for work on Saturday."It's very unlike her to not show up at work and not to at least call and say, 'I'm sick. I'm not coming,'" said Mary Paquette, Bragdon's sister-in-law.Bragdon's child was found to be safe with her biological father in New Hampshire.Police determined that Chase had left in one of Bragdon's vehicles, which was spotted Monday in the parking lot of a department store in Rochester, N.Y. Chase was seen leaving the store and taken into custody without incident. An autopsy on Bragdon's body is scheduled for today.
