Haha as if Boston isn't full of shitbags already
As long as you can pass a psych test, bpd is the easiest job to get on in the state right now.
There are quite a few guys retiring but it is not 800. The retirees will not be replaced 1:1. Some units will lose guys to districts hurting for manpower. Cadet program is back and they will get first crack at the job once eligible. Taking laterals again is an option the department will consider and probably makes sense to do. New contract brings a guy with 5 years on the job, with Quinn, to about $115k base. City will ALWAYS choose OT over new hires. With the political climate, expect big time minority numbers in classes over the next few years.
"nearly walk-on shot" just kind of pisses me off too. Class graduating in June has lost 30 BPD recruits. Now, I tell everyone with the means to establish residency and take the test. But i think anyone with "walk-on" mentality is set up for disappointment.
Easiest? Tell that to the 35+ that quit the current academy.
That's crazy man, giving up a good career over an academy haha at least they're not slipping through the cracks
I realize thats what he meant (getting a card, taking part in the hiring process etc.) You still have to pass the academy to be "on." Not sure where they got 800 from either thats definitely not the number. I think the recent issue of the Pax said like 350.
One of the toughest academies to get through, one of the easiest to get in. That's what I meant. Mostly due to the size of the department. Much easier than being from a <15k populated town that only hires once every 4 years.
Easiest to get in? Because of the size of the department? What an insult to the thousands of good men and women over the years that passed an extensive background check and worked hard at preparing themselves physically, mentally and academically to "get in".....
Read the post again. I never said anything about how hard they prepared. Like I said previously "...One of the toughest academies to get through"
Wow, people get offended at everything these days. Maybe masscops can set up a safe space.
Only lost so far 26 I was the 26th.
Yup Pulmanry Emoblism. Fun time.
Shit! that blows. Sorry to hear
Heard Some people are already done with Pysch, Medical, and BMC tests. Some haven't even got a call from detective. Academy still in august or September since they are behind on processing?
Yeah the Boston Medical center tests.
Well if they're hurting so bad for help maybe they'll reconsider ?
All kidding aside , very disappointed with BPD.
You're not the only one. I was just too stupid and pushed through what I thought was pain and shortness of breath from when I got stabbed . . . turns out I was forming and I quote "multiple" clots in my lungs. Now its recommended I remain on blood thinners for life so not sure what my future with BPD looks like. It was fun while it lasted and I was the last to drop . . . my last day was when the class was actually recognized as one and given the class guide on. Ill get over it some day just not anytime soon haha.
I hear ya ! To test and have nothing happen is one thing , but they have your hand on the brass ring . . . . . . .
May your luck improve and soon
Any more word on Boston taking laterals in the near future?
Anyone on here currently going through the process? Can you verify where you actually are in the process? As it seems to be up in the air at the moment?
I'm glad you asked the question CC22. I am also wondering where everyone is at? I just took the exam in March 2017 and I'm waiting for "the end of the summer" for the scores and rankings to be released. It sounds like we have people here who are going through or just exited the BP Academy, and others who are/were deep in the process (i.e. going through pre-screening, etc.). Anyone in my boat? It's going to be a long summer waiting for those results! Stay Safe!
I'm with ya man, my buddy got his results on Halloween in 2015 so trying not to think about it haha. He just got hired in the Boston area and started the academy today though, but I don't think anyone shooting for BPD will have to wait nearly as long to get in the process, there's gonna be plenty of open positions to go around in the next couple years
Might be a little longer than end of summer, due to the new legislation. They're now allowing 19 & 20 yr olds to take the exam, which is being offered to them in June, which may push out the scoring.
Yup that's what I keep hearing as well - plenty of spots but they are understandably still being picky and are not desperate. For those of us who took the exam in March 2017, I figure the scores will likely be release in early September, the list is then established in early October, and God willing the academy starts in April or June of 2018. Hopefully it's a quicker timeline than that but we'll see. Stay Safe!
