LAKE LUZERNE, N.Y. -- An intoxicated driver allegedly dragged a police officer 50 feet before he crashed his van into a ditch and was taken into custody, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Office.
At 11:22 p.m. Saturday, Patrol Officer Edward Stangle stopped a green van driven by 35-year-old Gregory M. Sesera because it matched the vehicle description in a drunk driving complaint.
As Stangle attempted to remove Sesera from the van, he drove off with the officer partially inside the vehicle, sheriff's deputies said. Stangle freed himself after being dragged a short distance and received minor scrapes to his hand and arm.
Sheriff's deputies in the area deployed a tire deflating device nearby, which Sesera struck and then continued driving. Shortly thereafter, he crashed into a ditch on East River Drive, where authorities immediately took him into custody.
Sesera, who was not injured in the crash, faces felony charges of reckless endangerment and attempted assault as well as misdemeanor charges of unlawfully fleeing a policer officer, driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.
He was being held at the Warren County police lockup pending his arraignment.
