PARSONSFIELD, ME -- Authorities say thieves struck the Churchill Cemetery on Route 160 this past week, stealing five large sections of granite wall. Caretaker Alfred Garside, who owns the farm on which the cemetery sits, says the thieves knew exactly what they were doing and that granite is quite valuable right now. Garside is a former granite quarry manager and painstakingly keeps up the cemetery himself. "Right now, to be honest, its very disturbing and I hope we get it back," says Garside. "I would just be happy to get the granite back so I could put the wall back and keep the original and its very, very disturbing to me." Investigators recovered one of the wall pieces at a nearby granite company. They are confident they'll find the other four. If you saw anything suspicious or have any information about the theft, you're asked to call the York County Sheriff's Department at 324-1046.
