AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Police say a stabbing on the Agawam bike path last month - that sent shock waves through the community - was a hoax.
Agawam Police Chief Robert Campbell told 22News the man's stab wound to the stomach was self inflicted. Now Ralph Michael, of 6 Randall Street in Agawam, will be charged with filing a false police report.
Michael told police he was attacked on the bike path between River Road and Campbell Drive on the morning of August 28 while he was with his 7 year-old daughter. He claimed a man tried to steal their bikes and during the scuffle he was stabbed.
