NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A New Haven detective has been suspended with pay and banned from police headquarters, accused of tapping into a police database for personal use.
Police say Michael Hunter faces several departmental violations. He's accused of the release of arrest records to non-department personnel, filing false police reports and improperly using the Collect system, a police computer database.
Police say the allegations stem from Hunter's alleged request for state police record checks on two brothers last year.
Internal affairs investigators say the request wasn't for official business, but rather because 1 of the brothers was in a relationship with the mother of Hunter's child.
Hunter is scheduled to appear Oct. 14 before the Board of Police Commissioners, which can impose discipline up to and including firing him.
