Police arrested Robert Mattheson, of 23 Second St., Concord, N.H., last week and charged him with two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. He is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing this Friday.
According to police documents, Mattheson began molesting the girl, who is also from Concord, when she was 13. Mattheson is a friend of the girl's family, according to police documents, and he continued molesting her during shared vacations at Mattheson's Basin Front Drive cottage.
The girl and Mattheson reportedly exchanged letters in August about running away together, and Mattheson's wife found the girl's letter to Mattheson, according to police reports. Mattheson's wife reportedly told his chapter of the Jehovah's Witnesses, who kicked Mattheson out and alerted the New Hampshire Department of Child Services.
When Newbury police interviewed Mattheson last week, he admitted to a physical and emotional relationship with the girl, according to police reports. Mattheson told police that he began molesting the girl during a time when he was struggling with unemployment and disconnected from his faith, and said he was "persuaded" by Internet pornography.
He was married to my sister, Nancy Mattheson,i also have knowledge of three other
incidences that involved him.
The concord Police have a written statement from me, that was taken in the early
eighties, he was being investagated at that time.
I would like for him to be held accountable for his actions.
