HI
The other day i was out on I-91 in the B-6 area,I saw this brand new msp car it was a unmarked dark blue ford crown vic. I know old semi or unmarked cars seem to of all be black. The dark blue car looked great.I have saw alot of new cars in the B troop area over the last few weeks alot are full marked units.I did see one slick top that was real nice however this was the first new unmarked that i have saw. I think it started with 13?
My question for masstroopers and any other B troop troopers is how many of these cars did B troop get? Do they all start with 13 or do some start with other numbers? Do all the new cars have MDTS
Bottom line is the new cars all look great! I love how they went back to the long fender mount low band antennas.
Thanks for the info and stay safe
P.S MT1 any chance of you gettg a new unmarked or any new car at all?

Well I do not think anyone can answer how many new unmarked cruisers there are in B-Troop. All the ones that i have seen have been in the 1300 series, but there could be others around. Only the new B-Troop cruisers have the side mounted whip antenna on them, the rest of the state have the smaller new antenna. Some of the new unmarked cruisers are not blue or black, but a different color.

I was at MHQ in Marlborough last night and there are about 20 or so new Marked units awaiting delivery to the MSP and there are like 10 give or take a few unmarked units. The best thing about all the unmarked units are that the majority of them are Intrepids :-D all different colors too. There are also a few Expeditions there too that are unmarked. Pretty much all of the Marked units there start the 1500 series of unit #'s.

Just my :2c:

Whats with the new MSP cruisers and those ugly looking code-3 light bars? What happened to the Whelans? Someone drop the ball on that bid.

Now always thought and still do think that the MSP has some of the nicest looking cruisers in the country, Then someone had to ruin them with those ridiculous looking code 3 light bars. Please put the Whelans bars back on or switch to LED.

Now does anyone remember the rumor when Swifty was in office? The rumor was she was going to have all the MSP cruisers done in white and no external emergency lighting (only low pro's) and she was going to do away with the breeches and high boots, all in the name of saving $.Thank God she's gone.

I hope to good ol Romney doesn't have plans like that.

Word is that AMI (MHQ) had a BIG problem with it's Whelen distributor. Since that battle, MHQ said that they will sell, and promotoe as few whelen products as possible. Hence the Code 3, and Federal products all over the new MSP vehicles.

I think the MSP bid states a lightbar with a minimum of 10 strobes/takedowns,etc, it make no mention of brand.

Hey Mass Trooper,

What are they doing with all the Caprices? I have a non-police 1991 carpice I am refurbishing and could use some parts.

I tell you the Troopers that had the Chevy Caprices will miss them. More room and alot more speed to catch the bad guys on the highways.

Every PO I know wish they still had Caprices.

THe new light bars were universally panned as being ugly, but they are bright as hell. Nice when there is an accident in the high speed lane (but you can see them from a mile away) It is a trade off, not being seen is great when your hunting. It is a moot point for me though -I was in the last RTT (76th), and have a 95 Caprice. While it is ugly as sin, it holds the road better than my 96 CV did and has a ton of room up front, although I like the deep trunk of the CV better. It is also ridiculously fast. I am crossing my fingers for a '04 (yeah right! [-o< ).

Also with the Code 3 lightbars comes a Code 3 siren. I only know this because half of the Marlborough PD marked cruisers have Code 3 sirens and they have unique sounding tones. The older marked cars have Federal Signal and two of the newest cars have Whelen sirens. The give away of what kind of siren it is, is by the yelp tone if you know what they all sound like. I dont but I know what the most common brands sound like.
