The new man in charge of the Boston office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was raised without a father in the slums of New Haven, so beyond enforcing federal law he sees it as part of his job to reach out to kids who grew up as he did.

“I believe in mentoring,” said Guy Thomas, who is of Cape Verdean heritage and took over as Special Agent in Charge of the six New England states last week. “I’m a guy who believes in giving back.”

Feuds within Boston’s Cape Verdean population have been responsible for dozens of high-profile shootings and murders over the years. Authorities have struggled to address the violence with varying degrees of success. But those who work with at-risk youth said Thomas’ heritage and his willingness to help could be a great asset.

So he grew up without a father in the slums and didnt just cry about it? He actually overcame being a "victim of society"? The libs must hate this guy. How is it possible that he could have come from such a horrible life and now be involved in law enforcement?
