NEW BEDFORD - Police are looking to identify a man whose dead body was found lying in a wooded area at Riverside Park Thursday afternoon.
Police said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
The man, who police believe was in his 20s, was found by two men walking through the park just after 2 p.m.
Citing the ongoing investigation, police spokesman Lt. Jeffrey P. Silva said he could only describe the victim as a white man in his 20s.
Neighbors Trevor Cabral and Jonathan D'Amato said they found the man lying on his back, with a hypodermic syringe next to him. They described him as being heavyset, wearing blue jeans, white shoes, and a gray T-shirt.
They said they immediately called 911.
"I thought it was a mannequin at first or something," Mr. Cabral said. "But it was definitely, 100 percent, the real deal."
Lt. Silva said there was no obvious cause of death. Police might not know that until after an autopsy and toxicology test results.
The man had no identification on him. Police are looking to identify him from fingerprinting and facial recognition technology.
