Source: Jamaica Plain stabbing may be lovers' quarrel

A tenant of a Boston Public Housing home for elderly and disabled people is being held on murder charges after he allegedly stabbed to death a woman in her 50s who also lived in the Jamaica Plain building, police and residents said.
Police arrested Charles Cherry, 66, Friday night and charged him with murder for the brutal crime, which rattled residents of the Amory Street building.
Neighbors said they often saw the woman downstairs near the entrance to the building, where many gather to smoke and relax. Many residents stood there yesterday, staring at a half-dozen police cars in the street.
"Everyone here is friendly," said resident Jacqueline Johnson. "That's why this is so shocking."
Boston Housing spokeswoman Lydia Agro had no information about the victims, but said the building is staffed with security guards 24 hours a day.
Police said they found the woman still alive inside the building about 11 p.m., suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. She was rushed to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Shortly thereafter, police arrested Cherry. Residents did not know if the pair were involved in a relationship, but a city source said they believed Cherry and the victim were a couple.
Housing complex residents knew little about the slain woman. They described her as friendly but quiet, keeping mostly to herself.
Suffolk District Attorney's office spokesman Jake Wark said Cherry is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in West Roxbury District Court on murder charges.
The murder was the 42nd in Boston this year. Last year as of Sept. 1, there were 47 murders.
