BEATRICE, Neb. (AP)- A man is dead after being shot by a Gage County law enforcement officer following a standoff in Blue Springs.
A news conference has been scheduled for this afternoon at the Beatrice Police Department. Gage County Attorney Randall Ritnour says authorities received a report of a man armed with a handgun acting suspiciously about 6 p.m. Saturday.
Negotiations were conducted into the early morning hours. The man came out of the residence and fired shots shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday. Officers returned fire, and the man went back inside. He was found dead at about 7:15 a.m.
Ritnour said a grand jury would be called to investigate the shooting. The officer who shot the man has been placed on administrative leave. The man has not been identified.
