Police: Nebraska Man Kills Himself With Chainsaw After Standoff

............

Associated Press

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) -- A man involved in a seven-hour standoff with police killed himself with a chainsaw, the State Patrol said Wednesday.

Grand Island police were trying to arrest Paul E. Smidt Jr., 40, on a warrant charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. As police approached Smidt's lawn care business at about 5 p.m. CST Tuesday, he refused to let officers enter, State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said.

A State Patrol SWAT team was called in and negotiations continued until after midnight when police entered the building, Collins said.

Armed with a chainsaw, Smidt ran to a back bathroom and barricaded himself inside. Members of the SWAT team entered the bathroom and fired bean bags at Smidt, but he refused to drop the chainsaw and finally lowered his neck over it, Collins said.

As required by state law, a grand jury will investigate Smidt's death, Collins said.

What a way to go :/ I guess negotiations failed this time. That definately has to ruin your shift though.

You think that is bad a man in Tewksbury attempted to kill himself with a chain saw and failed because he did not tape the trigger down. Have no fear, after getting out of the hospital he completed the act.

Attempted to kill himself with a chainsaw, failed, and they let him out of the hospital? WTF  How about a long stay at an institution instead of letting him free to try again
