National Police Week 2005 Official Dates - May 15 - 21

Greetings all,

On October 1, 1962 John F. Kennedy was President of the United States and the 87th United States Congress which was in session at the time authorized the President to proclaim the week in which May 15 occurs as Police Week "in recognition of the service given by the men and women who, night and day, stand guard in our midst to protect us through enforcement of our laws".

During this week throughout the Country we honor Peace Officers who died or became disabled while acting in the line of duty.

It is a time we hold memorial services for those persons and their families, a time we promote to the public what we do via displays and interaction, a time we honor the men and women in the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Community, and a time we honor citizens who have given exceptional assistance so we could carry out our duties to the best of our abilities

This year the official dates for National Police Week are May 15 - 21, 2005, across the country people will remember the service and sacrifice that police officers make on daily basis. Sad to say, but even today there are people out there that think that Campus Police Officers are not "real police", don't encounter dangerous situations, and have never made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their "community."
