Hey everyone! I'm new to this site and figured I'd introduce myself. I'm a sophmore majoring in Criminal Justice. I'm also a motivated Marine Corps Officer Candidate and, if all goes well, will be commissioned in '07 and will hopefully end up a 5802 MP Officer. After that, I'll pursue my other dream to be a MA State Trooper.

I'm trying to set up an internship with the MSP this summer out of the Grafton barracks. However, one of my professors and I have been unable to get in touch with anyone on the Department who can help us out. We've both called the Human Resources number on the MSP website dozens of times over a course of about 2 months (no lie) and no one has ever picked up or returned our calls. The woman who's voicemail we get is named Jennifer Vasipoli (spellling?). I was wondering if anyone on here might have some contact info that would help me out, and/or any info as to whether or not the Grafton Barracks does internships. The reason for this is because its only about 20 minutes from my house in Uxbridge. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

When I worked in Grafton we never had an intern. I'm not sure the job even does it, I've never heard of it. At least not on the barracks level. They might have something at GHQ you could intern with where theres a lot more administrative things going on, but again, I'm not sure. And to be honest with you, there isn't really too much that go's on in the barracks thats worthwhile anyways, all the fun happens out on the road.

andyuxb,

Welcome aboard. I did an Internship back in '97 with the SPA-Medical Unit. You can try checking there. I have also heard of people doing internships at the Marine/underwater Recovery Section. Best bet is to contact GHQ. One of my roommates did one at GHQ. Contact GHQ and find out what they have internships available. I know in my case I was able to the medical Unit based on my medical background. Just remember most internships regardless if your with the MSP or any other LE agency you are going to be a paper pusher, but that's not necessarily a bad thing either you have to get a start some where. Plus if you do a good job most places are more then willing to write you a good letter of recommendation.

I interned with the MSP H-4 in Boston during my senior year in 97-98. My professor tried to set me up with the Auto Theft Strike Force. I interviewed with them and they downplayed it as just a bunch of paperwork etc. I ended up using some contacts and latching onto the H-4 every Friday from 0700-1500. It was alot of fun as I was out on the road (downtown Boston) most of the time. I did spend some quality time with paperwork and administrative "projects" (CMVI's and parking tix) but all in all a great time. I know that I went directly throught the barracks commander, the Lt. Perhaps they can allow it, seeing as it is their own station? Give Grafton a call and ask to speak with someone about it. What's the worse that can happen, they say no?

Contact Trp. Webber out of the Framingham Headquarters....She deals with placing all the interns...Well she did when I did mine, and I'm pretty sure that's still the case. Just be prepared that they don't welcome interns freely at the barracks level. It's kind of a hard process that you have to keep up on. Being persistant..etc. but I'm sure she'll lead you in the right direction.. Good Luck and Have fun 8)

Thanks for all the info.

copchika- I'll give Trp. Webber a call and see how things go. If I get any good scoop I'll post it up here for any other prospective interns.

A school administrator or professor needs to get a good relationship w/ the barracks commander. Then it will work from there. SP-Athol had the local high school let students spend time at the barracks to see how things work. SP-Andover has a working relationship with Merrimack college.

I did my internship with the MSP Community action team in South Boston. Call the Troop H barracks at 125 day blvd and speak with Lt. Wicks. Vasipoli doesn't return phone calls whatsoever,so call the Lt. It was a great learning experience.
