The competition is heating up here at the end of the year for the coveted Dumbass Daily "Mother of the Year" award.Although it's late in the year, Yvonne Rodriguez, of Kissimmee, FL makes a strong run after she left her kids at home to go get her nails done and do some shopping. Not unusual for parents who have several kids to leave the oldest in charge, but in Rodriguez' case that eldest child was a five-year-old boy...

Osceola County deputies were called out to the Cobblestone Apartment Complex in Kissimmee Saturday afternoon in reference to child neglect. When they arrived, they knocked on the door of an apartment and a small child opened the door and said, "Policemen, Mommy is not here. I watching my sisters. Can you watch us now?" Three small children, ages 5, 3 and 2, were in the apartment alone. Deputies contacted the Department of Children and Families and attempted to contact the childrens' mother, 23-year-old Yvonne M. Rodriguez. At around 6:40 p.m., Rodriguez returned home and told deputies she went to the grocery store, Best Buy and to a nail salon. She thought her five year old was mature enough to take care of his sisters. Based on her statements and the information provided by the five year old child, Rodriquez was arrested and charged with three counts of child neglect.

You need a license to drive a car, carry a gun, cut hair, do manicures, and use commercial pesticides. Is it really unreasonable to demand basic skills for someone raising a human being?

Not at all but would you really want this gov't deciding which skills are required?
We should require implanted birth control in exchange for gov't assistance. Circumvent that guideline and the baby goes into the adoption pool saving some nice couple a trip to a 3rd world country and six figures for a baby.
