GLOUCESTER, Mass. -- The manager of a Gloucester motel is facing charges of skimming about $50,000 in room rental receipts and keeping the proceeds from an allegedly fake robbery.
William Worcester, manager of the Captain's Lodge Motel, pleaded not guilty to a larceny charge and was released on personal recognizance at his arraignment Friday.
Police began investigating after the motel's owner reported a sharp drop on cash receipts since the 45-year-old Worcester was hired in winter of 2007.
Police say a cooperating witness rented a room for cash and Worcester listed that room as vacant.
Police also think Worcester faked a robbery in August, blaming a guest who was never charged in connection with the incident.
