HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a former journalist accused of shooting a man to death in Hartford last year.
Hartford Superior Court Judge Thomas Miano excused the jurors Tuesday afternoon after they announced they were deadlocked in the case of 65-year-old James Robertson, a former reporter and editor at The Hartford Courant.
Robertson is charged in the killing of 56-year-old Ralph Colon on Aug. 9, 2007. Robertson says he was defending himself, but prosecutors say it was an intentional act related to a dispute between Robertson and a neighbor.
Prosecutors did not immediately say whether they will seek a second trial. The judge has scheduled a pretrial conference in the case for Oct. 21.
