Iam an ex VA officer who went to DoD. Looked at going back to the VA in Boston (for the GS-07) but ended up staying here in Florida as a tribal cop.

I've toyed with the idea of a switch to the VA. Got a buddy who works at the Tampa VA who used to be DoD here. He loves it. If I could get the wifey to move I'd put in for Bay Pines which is hiring now. DoD is an ok gig, but too many restrictions.

Bay Pines has lots and lots of problems for a VA. Used to be one of the best VA's nationwide.

Tribal policing isnt bad. Alot of OT just to sit in a casino for a few hours. Take home cars and some decent action if you work one of the more rural reservations.

Bay Pines having issues now? We had one of our female officers leave 2-3 years ago for there. I'm just looking to go to Fla or maybe S.C. Somehwere warm and a little more of a challenge.

I was at Westover in 98 for the air show. Couldnt do any patrolling and was locked in the base gym. Damn good food afterwards and you guys treated us really good.

Bay Pines has alot of issues, not really on the police side but in the administration side. Ive heard it has affected police. I know Tampa every so often has openings. Like I side, you might want to try the contractors at Kenndey Space center a try (http://www.spacegatewaysupport.com). They make some decent money and will accept a DoD academy in leiu of a civilian police academy.

As far as warm, SC still gets snow. But there are alot of nice areas to it and alot of folks move out of Florida to go to GA or SC.

Try some of the mountain areas they get alot of snow. hahahahaha. Iam orginally from Philly so Iam glad to not to have to deal with snow.
