Police held a Milford man on $5,000 bail yesterday after finding a Tec-9 semi-automatic pistol in the trunk of his Pontiac.
David M. Cross, 47, was arrested at 1:02 p.m. on warrants and four firearms-related charges after he first went to the station seeking advice on a landlord-tenant dispute, police said.
Cross, of 59 Bancroft Ave. #2, came in about an hour after his ex-wife requested an emergency restraining order against him, police said.
Not knowing about that request, Cross went in to solve his own problem, and police served him with the restraining order and arrested him on two warrants, said Officer Russell Poissant.
Cross was wanted in Milford and Framingham District Court for failing to appear after being charged with motor vehicle violations, Poissant said.
Cross didn't bring his wallet into the station, so police went to fetch it from his car so he could bail himself out, said Officer Paul Moffi.
"He did tell me his wallet was in there, and he did tell me he had a gun in there," Moffi said.
Police found the unloaded Tec-9 inside a black carrying case, stuffed under boxes of belongings in the trunk of Cross's Pontiac Bonneville.
"These are illegal to possess in Massachusetts because it's considered a large capacity firearm, and he doesn't have a large capacity firearms license," Poissant said.
Cross moved to Milford from California last Christmas, and told police he bought the gun at a gun store out west.
Cross was charged with felony possession of a large capacity firearm, leaving a firearm in a vehicle (a felony), possessing a firearm without a license to carry card (a felony), and carrying an unloaded large capacity firearm on a public way, police said.
He is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in Milford District Court.
