MILFORD, Conn. (AP) - Milford police have charged a 33-year-old man with a large scale identity theft operation that included stealing mail from more than 100 people.
Police say Mariusz Paliwoda (MEHR'-ee-oos pall-ee-WOH'duh) used stolen mail for information that allowed him to get a home equity line of credit, credit cards and ATM cards.
He was arrested Tuesday after an eight-month investigation by Milford police and the U.S. Postal Service.
Investigators say Paliwoda allegedly took letters out of rural residents' mailboxes and used the information he found to gain access to bank accounts, credit cards and ATM accounts.
Police say when they searched Paliwoda's basement room in his parents' house, they found several ATM and credit cards issued from banks and credit agencies using stolen information.
