Is there a MGL or CMR that discusses that police officers most direct traffic at road construction and other such deatils.

I am having a debate with this idiot that is against it and he wants to know if there is a MGL or CMR. I tries looking in the MGL but I ma not having any luck.

We have a town bylaw:

Construction work on or above any sidewalk, street or public way shall have a police officer to direct traffic if in the opinion of the Chief of Police an officer is necessary. The expense of the police officer shall be assumed by the party or parties doing the construction work.

In the Commonwealth the only person recognized to control the flow of traffic is a police officer (sheriff, trooper, bla bla bla).

therefore is a flagman told someone to stop, they could drive right by and cause an accident, obviously this could amount to a lanes viol, or negligent op, etc, but unless is a police officer who display's his badge (c90.25) etc etc is in the roadway, motorists have no obligation to follow what a civilian directs them to do.

I recall seeing a very recent bill that makes it a violation to not stop for a flagman. Don't know if it's law yet though. Flagmen still can't stop a motorist for it. I guess that leaves it up to us. Yeah, right. rhl
