BATH (NEWS CENTER) -- A couple from Bath are facing drug charges after their home was searched this afternoon by Maine Drug Enforcement Agents.
Evidence of a methamphetamine lab was found in a shed behind their home at 2 Shaw Street. 42-year-old Walter Bennet, AKA Walter Bennet, and 35-year-old Beth Grasser were both taken to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Bennett is charged with trafficking and furnishing methamphetamine. Grasser was arrested on an unrelated charge of aggravated trafficking in prescription drugs. She was released on bail.
The search was coordinated with the Bath Police Department as specially trained agents in protective clothing began searching the house and shed about 1 PM. Among the items seized in the search were ephedrine and iodine, both components in making methamphetamine. Ephedrine is a component of common cold medication.
There were four children living with the adults at the house and they have been released to the care of other relatives.
