A career in law enforcement can be an exciting, rewarding experience for those who can meet the challenge.

We are currently seeking intelligent individuals of unquestionable integrity, who want challenges not complacency, who can be brave and strong, yet compassionate and gentle.

We are looking for individuals who want peace and are willing to work to help keep it and for those individuals who have the ability to lead and the wisdom to follow.

Our standards are the highest.

Our officers are the finest.

If you feel you possess the minimum requirements and have the maximum desire to serve your community then a career in law enforcement may be the right career for you.

Age: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age upon completion of the Police Basic Training Program at the Police Training Academy.

Education: Applicants must have at least 81 quarter hours or 54 semester hours with a "C" or better grade in each class, from an accredited college. Applicants who have already attained college credit must provide transcript(s) from their respective schools. Remedial/developmental courses carry college credit, but may not be considered toward the minimum educational requirements. Specialized military training courses for which a college/university grants credit (on a course-by-course basis) will be accepted if reflected on an official transcript. However, general credit for military service is not accepted toward fulfilling the educational requirements.

Military Record: The education requirement of having 54 semester hours of college is waived if the applicant has a minimum of two consecutive years of active duty in a branch of the military with an Honorable Discharge.

Criminal Record: Applicants must not have been convicted of, or pled guilty (or entered a plea of Nolo Contendre) to any felony charges. This also applies to violations of any federal/state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.

Other Requirements:
-Valid driver's license (Must obtain a TN driver's license if hired.)
-Successful candidate must establish residence in Shelby County within six months of hire date.
