Have they looked for laterals before? Or is this new? Just curious.
Don't want to pay to put people through their own academy?

Their retirement is different I don't think you can transfer state municipal time I there and vice versa.
Quinn?? Anyone have the scoop on their retirement? Any T guys here who could PM me few other questions.

Thanks
This has me interested. A lot to think about though with the different retirement systems. I have 7 years invested into the retirement system and I am able to buy back 4 years of active duty time for a total of 11 years at this point. I would have to work about 21 more years to max out retirement at 32 years of service. From what I understand Transit PD maxes out their pension after 23 years of service. Is this true?

How many years of service are required before a Transit officer can apply for a specialty position? (K-9, SWAT, Motor Unit, etc)
I believe you have to have 2 yrs on duty before you can apply for any of their specialty units. Not 100% sure, but I know a lot of folks on that dept.
If I'm not mistaken they pay for their own academy. I think it comes straight from their check the week in advance til they are out.

If they have the same pension as operators 23 years no age 5?%max out at 30 years 7?%.

If the Transit PD Union follows the T's 2 biggest Unions... and if you get hired now, you wont be grandfathered in to the 23 yrs. It is now 25 yrs / 55 yo. Max out at 30 yrs.

I remember reading some bill a couple months ago that Deval signed or something. I believe it said something about state employees will have to work until ~65 for retirement. Dont quote me on that.

I called the MBTA and asked about a lateral before I came here. I was told that they don't take them. My guess is that this is relatively new..

$36.77 not bad I wonder if
It's that plus Quinn
Last I heard their formula is 9% for a AA and 16% for a BA. I also heard that the rank n file just found out about the laterals yesterday.
If possible, could any mbta officer pm me in regards to the civil service lateral position, I had a couple of questions. Thanks
Is it true that the retirement system the MBTA uses isn't as beneficial as one within the municipalities? When I ask this I mean years or service and return on your investment.

You can retire sooner from the MBTA but the percentages aren't as good as with Group 4.
Any older dudes should 4 get it. Unless there was major PARADIGM change....You have to be able to Serve 23 Years before age 65 or your RAILROAD-Based pension suffers greatly. You DO NOT transfer in any State/Muni time either. Believe me I got the card in 06, was 45 years old and extremely disappointed when the MBTA HR folks told me directly that I was welcome to come onboard but my Military time and five years state time would mean NOTHING. Delta their retirement is like 80% anytime after 23 years and.....Your spouse gets the full pension after you die first!

Out of curiosity mpd61, is the MBTA pension from the federal railroad retirement board (rrb.gov), or something on the state level?
So does that mean that a vested municipal cop could take the T job, work there until he's got 23 years in and collect the group 4 pension (based on the years of municipal service) and the railroad pension, or would that be considered a double dip? I wouldn't think so because its not a municipal, county, or state job but you never know in this state. Its something to think about if the math adds up right for someone.

Ya, I was told the same thing by a Trooper who was a Tcop in court today. It would be sweet if it transferred. For those interested he did say it was a good job.
