BOSTON (AP) - A grand jury has indicted five men on charges they allegedly scammed more than 1,000 donors to police and veterans charities.
Attorney General Martha Coakley's office launched the investigation after being alerted by 1 of the charities.
Investigators said between August 2006 and January 2008, telemarketers from Ronald Seeley's Medford-based fundraising organization, CMR Marketing, used fraudulent fundraising telemarketing schemes to raise money they claimed was for the Veteran's Charitable Foundation of Boynton Beach, Fla., and a retired police officers organization.
Investigators said over $100,000 in donations were misappropriated.
Seeley and four other men are scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 3. Seeley's phone number was not listed.
