Correctional Officer 1st Class James A. El-Shafey died after going into cardiac arrest on duty Thursday, according to a sheriff's office statement. The sheriff's office characterized El-Shafey's passing as a line-of-duty death. El-Shafey was involved in routine duties when he experienced a medical emergency, according to Maj.
