Police, fire and emergency personnel responded to a chemical spill at 111 Hayes Memorial Drive in Marlborough on Monday morning.

MARLBOROUGH - A chemical spill forced the shutdown of a portion of Hayes Memorial Drive yesterday morning, one month after an acid spill was reported at the same location.

The spill of a hazardous material occurred inside a tractor trailer at 111 Hayes Memorial Drive, said Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) spokesman Joe Ferson.

Around 10 a.m., 23 drums of silicon tetrachloride spilled, causing one person to complain of difficulty breathing, police said. Silicon tetrachloride is a colorless, nonflammable, yet toxic liquid.

The road remained closed by Marlborough Police into the evening as fire and DEP officials worked to clean the site.

The situation was declared stable by 3 p.m., said Ferson.

On June 28, an acid spill was reported at the Hayes Memorial Drive address, off Rte. 20 near the Northborough border. The acid spilled from an 18-wheeler on the side of the road.
