A local man was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with his fifth OUI offense, police said.
Michael F. Conti, 45, of 86 Brimsmead St., was being pulled over on Chandler Street at 4:40 p.m., after police received a call about an erratic driver, according to Officer Andrew LaRose's police report.
On Bolton Street, LaRose said he got behind Conti's van and turned on his lights. After pulling over on Chandler Street, Conti immediately got out of the van, using the door for support. Conti then lost his balance and started stumbling across the street, according to police.
Conti admitted to drinking alcohol, had an odor of alcohol on his breath, was unsteady on his feet and had bloodshot and glassy eyes, LaRose noted in the report. Conti also failed two field sobriety tests, LaRose wrote.
Conti paid the $2,500 bail Monday night, according to court documents. At Conti's arraignment in Marlborough District Court yesterday, Judge Jonathan Brant ordered that Conti not drink alcohol and must submit to random screenings.
For the previous OUI offenses, Conti received probation in 1983, a suspended sentence in 1988, jail for 90 days in 1994, and jail for seven months in 1996, according to court documents.
Conti is scheduled for pretrial hearing Nov. 21.
