Marblehead Police Officers on May 2, 2003 at about 0900 hours went to 26 Waldron Court to serve a search warrant for evidence related to the manufacturing of forged RMV documents.
Officer Cary Gaynor of the MPD had been conducting an investigation into the origin of several high quality counterfeit Massachusetts Drivers Licenses discovered in the possession of several teenaged Marblehead residents.
During the execution of the search warrant investigating officers discovered what appeared to be a clandestine laboratory, manufacturing methylenedioxymethamphetamine-(ecstacy), and methamphetamine-(crystal methamphetamine).
DEA, State Police Bomb Squad, State Police Crime Scene Services Chemists, Marblehead Fire Department and the District 6 Haz-Mat Crews were summoned to the scene.
The DEA confirmed that the scene was in fact a clandestine laboratory, and had to spend several hours disassembling the laboratory to render the scene safe for officers and adjacent neighbors.
During this process of disassembling the clandestine lab, DEA agents found what appeared to be a pipe bomb.
The State Police Bomb Squad confirmed that the device was in fact a pipe bomb, and they had to clear the scene in order to remove and destroy it.
The hazardous nature of the precursors chemicals in the residence along with the discovery of the explosives required the closure of an area of Waldron Court and the evacuation of several residences in the area.
The suspect in this is a 17 year old male....
