Fall River -
A man escaped with an undetermined amount of cash Wednesday after threatening to stick a McDonald's employee with a hypodermic needle he said was contaminated with the AIDS virus.
Police spokesman Lt. Wayne Furtado said the robber approached a female clerk at a register of the restaurant, 1853 S. Main St., about 2:30 p.m. with the needle that he claimed was infected with the deadly virus.
"He said he would stick the employee if she didn't give him cash," Furtado related, reading from Officer David Calderone's report.
The clerk complied, giving him money from the register, and he fled, police were told.
The man was described as white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a blue Boston Red Sox T-shirt and dark pants. Police also were told that he had a swollen left eye.
Video surveillance is part of Calderone's continued investigation in identifying the suspect. Major Crimes Division detectives are assisting Calderone.

Fall River -
Police have arrested a man who is accused of threatening a McDonald's cashier with a syringe he said was infected with AIDS.
Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Mauretti said Adam Reis, 33, of 126 Plymouth Blvd., Westport, was arrested Monday and charged with armed robbery.
Bristol County District Attorney's office spokesman Gregg Miliote said Reis was arraigned Monday and held without bail.
Reis is accused of entering the McDonald's at 1853 S. Main St. on July 30 and ordering a cashier to open her register after placing an order.
Mauretti said that as the cashier had difficulty opening the register, Reis allegedly pulled out a hypodermic needle and stated it was infected with AIDS and that he would stick her with it if she did not give him money.
Mauretti said Reis was given an undisclosed amount of cash and left.
He said after a photo of Reis was released to the public, numerous tips were received identifying Reis as the suspect.
Detectives were then able to track Reis down and place him under arrest.
Mauretti said he did not know whether Reis is infected with AIDS or the HIV virus.

A man accused of threatening to stab a McDonald's cashier with an AIDS-infected syringe will be tried in Superior Court.
Bristol County District Attorney's Office spokesman Gregg Miliote said Adam Reis, 33, of 126 Plymouth Blvd., Westport, was indicted by a grand jury Thursday.
Reis was arrested in early August after entering the McDonald's at 1853 S. Main St. on July 30 and ordering a cashier to open her register after placing an order.
Police said the cashier had difficulty opening the register. Reis allegedly pulled out a hypodermic needle, which he said it was infected with AIDS, and said he would stick her with it if she did not give him money.
