Arlington, Texas police say an officer shot a man who attacked him with a Taser on Sunday night.
The 32-year-old officer had arrested the man, believed to be in his 20s, on outstanding warrants after a traffic stop about 9:05 p.m., said Lt. Blake Miller, an Arlington police spokesman.
While in the back of the officer's patrol car, the man apparently moved his handcuffs from his back to his front and began acting unruly, police said.
The officer stopped his car about 9:20 p.m. in the 600 block of East Abram Street, near North Collins Street, to try to get the man under control, police said. The man took the officer's Taser and shocked him with it, Lt. Miller said.
He said the officer pulled his gun, ordered the man to drop the Taser and fired repeatedly when the man kept coming at him. The man was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, in unknown condition.
The officer was treated at the scene. He has been with the Police Department for three years and will be placed on routine paid leave during an investigation, Lt. Miller said.
