Man Registers Deadly Blood-Alcohol Level

SOFIA, Bulgaria - Incredulous doctors made five blood tests on a drunken man to confirm he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.914, far above the usual life-threatening range, police and doctors said Tuesday.

The 67-year-old man, whose name was not released, was hospitalized Dec. 20, when a car knocked him down on a street in the southern Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.

A breath test showed high blood alcohol level, but police officers thought the result was inaccurate, because the man was conscious and talked with them, said Col. Angel Rangelov, head of police in Plovdiv.

Laboratory analysis of five subsequent blood samples taken the same day confirmed that the man had had a 0.914 blood alcohol content, Rangelov said. An 0.55 blood-alcohol level is usually considered as life-threatening.

Dr. Svetlan Dermendzhiev of Plovdiv's University hospital told state news agency BTA he had not seen such a high level.

The man was reported in stable condition after treatment for head injuries.

He was a standing and had a BAC of 0.914??? I wonder what his "normal" level is if he can get that hammered and live to see another day. Has to be a .30 or .40 day to day I am sure... :alcoholi: :t: Time to switch to coffee :coffee: Did the article say if he is a UMASS student?

Sounds like my old math teacher Mr. Ryan...the guys sweat was about 120 proof.
   Haven't we all had a teacher like this at one point? Mine was for U.S. History in the 10th grade. The scariest part was this guy used to do revolutionay war reenactments and with the school approval brought his "musket" (as he called it) and filled the room with soot once a year doing a demo... He was the type to sweat vodka too. I bet he could compete with this guy in Bulgaria

i hate to burst your bubble, but a BAC of 1.5 doesn't mean that 150% of your blood is alcohol. here is a little Blood Alcohol Content
update for all you veterans....

* BAC is calculated by parts of alcohol per parts of blood
example: .08 = eight parts alcohol per 10,000 parts of blood (8/10,000)

c'mon guys, you really thought that a person that blows a .21 has 21% of their blood as alcohol. if that were so, jim beam would
be giving out free transfusions at the local hospitals.
